Weekend Wrap-Up: Monogamous Monday

A simple but oh-so-soft shawl

A simple but oh-so-soft shawl

Oh, it’s Monday again. I wouldn’t say it’s my least favorite day of the week, but it doesn’t rank terribly high. The number one spot goes to Tuesday.

I have been loyal to one project this weekend. I really buckled down and focused. After a few false starts, I finally got going on mom’s shawl. I’m doing the very simple garter stitch shawl by Annmarie Aquino. It’s such an easy pattern. I don’t have to think while I’m knitting, which maximizes the amount of time I have to work on it. Overall, just simple. I love it! The yarn is a gorgeous alpaca/silk blend. It’s probably the softest yarn I’ve ever knit with. I almost don’t want to give the shawl back in the end!

I did buy new yarn this weekend. Oops? Well not entirely oops. A friend of mine asked if I could make a thneed for his daughter for Christmas. Got to love a good lead time! I finally picked out the yarn, although I’m pretty sure I need to go get some more. I bought six skeins of Loops & Threads Casper, which is a fur, in a bright pink. It reminds me of those truffula tree in the book. Now I just need to figure out how I’m going to make a thneed.

Mother’s Day was nice. Obviously mom did not get the shawl for Mother’s Day, but we did get her a cake decorating kit. She’s been really into that lately. (Luckily, my parents’ wedding anniversary is next week, so with some diligence and focus, I could have the shawl done by then.) We had lunch with my mom and the rest of the family and then went out for U-Swirl. Then, back home for more knitting! Just a peaceful weekend.

How was your weekend? Did you have a Happy Mother’s Day?

  1. Mother’s Day was rough (we can’t have kids) but my Mom had a blast with the whole family cooking out in 50 degree weather! That’s all that matters. Can’t wait to see the shaw off the needles!

  2. My parents’ wedding anniversary is next week too! and my mom’s birthday is Wednesday. Mom is getting a handspun handknit cowl designed by me for her birthday, and it’s definitely going to be a little late. But I sent her some of her favorite cookies for Mother’s Day, so I’ve been given a pass 😛

  3. I had to look up “thneed” too. Turns out, about half my projects turn out looking like one whether I want them to or not.

  4. I had a pretty good weekend. Slept more than I intended and didn’t blog as much. I started a clutch purse/E-reader case. I haven’t figured out the fastening for yet.

  5. I had a great weekend, my mom absolutely loved my Mother’s Day blogpost about her, my favorite comment of hers was that she was reading it and was sure I must be talking about someone else. And now I’m curious, why is Tuesday your favorite day of the week?

  6. Sometimes the simplest things are just so perfect. I made a garter stitch shawl a year or so ago, and nothing else is as warm and easy to wear.

I’m also curious about why Tuesdays are your least favorite days!

    • Well, Tuesdays are just awkward. Monday is a rush to get things sorted after two days off, Wednesday is that halfway point, Thursday (to borrow from Hoops & Yoyo) is Friday Eve, and Friday is, well, Friday. Tuesday is just there, not amounting to much lol.

      • Ha! I’d never thought about it that way, but that’s pretty spot on. I figured it was a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy-type thing. (“I never could get the hang of Thursdays…”)

A very beautiful and simple shawl (perfect for TV or radio evenings or long bus/car rides). Check out the comments link to the free pdf download of a “Thneed” pattern, too. The photos are priceless! So many projects, so little thyme . . . ~ Linne
